A taster of Dark Duck at Drake’s Barrelhouse in San Leandro. A 4 of 4. An Imperial stout in bourbon barrels. As you can see in the photo, no hint of carbonation, and no lacing, which makes this quite interesting to sip. Tons of barrel notes in the nose - vanilla, oak, dark fruit, some port notes - and then the chocolate and roasted notes come through. Drinks like a great full-bodied wine with incredible complexity - and honestly far more wine-y than I’d expect from an imperial stout in bourbon barrels. Awesome.
